Fiddler’s Faith

Fancy Gap, Virginia is a small, rural community nestled in the peaceful Blue Ridge Mountains.  At an altitude of nearly 2,900°, Fancy Gap is located next to the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile marker 199.5 on US Hwy 52 and at Exit 8 off Interstate 77.  Our driveway is only 5 minutes from the I-77 exit, but our location is on a serene and secluded gravel road (but additional paved road access is also available from Beamer’s Knob, the highest point of elevation in Carroll County, VA).

Our community is a neighbor to Galax (home of the annual Fiddler’s Convention and one of the New River Trail Access points) and Hillsville, VA.  We are also within a 30 minute drive to Mount Airy, NC (Andy Griffith’s hometown from which he modeled Mayberry) and just 45 minutes to Floyd County as well as Meadows of Dan, where you can visit the historic Mabry Mill (the most photographed site along the Blue Ridge Parkway).  In addition, Fancy Gap is centrally located between Winston-Salem, NC and Blacksburg, VA.

Area Attractions

Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway, called “America’s Favorite Drive,” is a U.S. National Parkway that winds 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina, connecting Shenandoah National Park on its northern end and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on its southern end. The drive is lovely, whether you travel North or South, and there are many attractions to visit in either direction.
Mabry Mill
When Edwin Boston Mabry (1867-1936) built his water powered mill in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, he had no way of knowing it would become one of the most photographed places in the United States. The mill, on the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 176.1, draws several hundred thousand visitors each year. The gristmill and sawmill have been restored by park naturalists so visitors might see live exhibits, a real mill, and a working miller to demonstrate the milling process. The grounds of the mill include other interpretive media all designed to tell about mountain industry. – Mabry Mill
Blue Ridge Music Center
The Music Center hosts a summer Roots of American Music Concert Series. Concerts take place in our beautiful outdoor amphitheater (capacity 2,500) at the base of Fisher Peak, feature local, regional, and national touring performers and bands, and are presented most Saturday evenings from late May through September.
Mayberry U.S.A.
Fans of The Andy Griffith Show can step back to a simpler time when they visit Mount Airy. Actor Andy Griffith grew up here, and it’s no coincidence that a stroll down Main Street in the “Friendly City” reminds people of the town of Mayberry on the endearing popular ‘60s hit TV series, The Andy Griffith Show. Fans of the show can visit Floyd’s City Barber Shop, the Old Mayberry Jail, Snappy Lunch, and even Andy’s childhood home.
New River Trail / Foster Falls
The New River Trail State Park is the longest state park, measuring a total of 57 miles, but only averages about 80 feet wide. This is a state park with the purpose of biking, hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, or tubing. There are several access points, with one being in nearby Galax. For picnic options amongst a century old past community, look at the Foster Falls area which is also near the Shot Tower historic site. – New River Trail
Chateau Morisette

Our Tasting Room will keep you busy with wine samplings, shopping, and tours of the cellar. During nice weather, take a bottle out to the Courtyard and enjoy the magnificent view. Live entertainment during the summer on Sundays.

Several trails cross the property, including one that follows the former road bed of the Good Spur Road – a historic route in the 18th and 19th centuries. The cave had a role in local history in association with the 1912 Carroll County Courthouse Shooting and was a major tourist attraction in the 1920s. The Devil’s Den Nature Preserve is open from Dawn to Dusk, May 1 to October 31. – Devil’s Den
